Avoiding Procrastination is Key to Your Success

By Trevor Johnson

If you have ever found yourself behind in projects or just wondering what happened to the day, you may be a procrastinator. You go to work, but you never seem to get anything done. Are you doing other jobs or are you just avoiding your work. Once you start avoiding procrastination, you will find that you are much more successful in everything that you do.
One of the biggest obstacles procrastinators have to deal with is just getting started. This may be because they think the task is too daunting or that it is going to take forever to get done. When you find yourself in this situation, you need to break the task down to make it more achievable. As you get past each step, you will get more and more excited to get to the final goal.

Another trick is to get yourself organized and set deadlines. You can team this method up with the above one and before you know it, you will be the dynamo of the office. Let’s say you are faced with a task that is going to take you about two weeks to do. Look at each step of the assignment and put a timeline on each phase. Now you have something to aim for each day and not only are you telling yourself when it has to be completed, you are also getting that sense of achievement every time you complete the step.

Now if you really want to get yourself motivated to get things done, start rewarding yourself every time you get something done on time. Make the reward something small at first, and then the more times you complete something on time, you can escalate the award.

Don’t make it an excuse to buy a new BMW, but make it little things that you have been looking forward to. Now your job becomes your incentive and in addition to all of these little treats you are giving yourself, you will become the star of the office.
